Maximizing of Tech4Ed project through mobile services pushed

THE Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center (NOLITC) in Bacolod City is working on maximizing the Technology for Education, Employment, Entrepreneurial, and Economic Development (Tech4Ed) project by bringing the services to different communities in the province via mobile.

Cristina Orbecido, vocational school administrator of NOLITC, said that on top of the Tech4Ed services, the center also incorporates the project with their recruitment activities in other local government units (LGUs) outside Bacolod City.

Orbecido said that recently NOLITC has already brought the Tech4Ed mobile services in Bago City and Cauayan town, simultaneous with the recruitment for their programs like scholarships for vocational and technical courses.

“We are bringing the Tech4Ed project only in communities with connectivity, since it is basically online services,” she said, adding that NOLITC aims to saturate all areas in the province provided there are Internet connections.

The Tech4Ed project of the Department of Science and Technology – Information and Communication Technology Office (DOST-ICTO) is mainly designed to complement the government’s goal of achieving inclusive growth through bridging the gap between the educational and digital divide.

Aside from NOLITC, two other Tech4Ed centers in the municipalities of Himamaylan and Cauayan were also established in March.

These centers provide three main services such as eEduSkills, which focuses on educational and digital divide; eAssist for opportunity divide; and eGovServ devised for direct service to people.

For NOLITC, Orbecido said the most-availed service by mostly students and out-of-school youth is the eEduSkills.

The eEduSkills are digitized reviewers for Alternative Learning System, Learning English Language for Pinoys, online Technical Education and Skills Development Authority training courses, and value formation, including how to use the internet and cyber security.

Another service that is mostly availed by the users is the eGovServ, which provides community the access to services of various government agencies like Social Security System, Pag-Ibig Fund, and National Bureau of Investigation.

“To further ensure inclusive growth, we are targeting other sectors like women and senior citizens in the province as recipients of the Tech4Ed services,” Orbecido said.

She pointed out that these services are not yet maximized in centers, thus, through mobile approach, many Negrense would be aware and can eventually avail of the project. (EPN)
