Gabii sa Kabilin to feature 41 heritage sites on May 27

MORE heritage sites and partners will join the 10th Gabii sa Kabilin (GSK) on May 27, which will culminate the International Museums Day and National Heritage Month.

“Culture is for everyone regardless of what level of society you are from. We are trying to reach the level of awareness and then appreciation,” said Dr. Jocelyn Gerra, executive director of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation(Rafi) culture and heritage unit.

This year’s event, which will mark the Kabilin’s 10th year, will feature 41 heritage sites.

“These different heritage places are part of our identity of who we are. The people that built it, the people that are showcased are already be gone but this is the thread that links us all to who we are,” said Gerra.

It only takes one ticket to have access to all the participating sites and rides. Each ticket costs P150, while children below seven years old get free admission.

A copy of the Gabii Sa Kabilin 2016 magazine will also be given to ticket holders for their guide which sites to visit.

Rafi, in partnership with InnoPub Media, will also be releasing a free mobile app for the heritage night.

In 2015, more than 3,600 people participated in the activity. The organizers are hoping to gather about 5,000 participants for this year.

Cebu City Tourist Police Station officer-in-charge Eugenio Raganas also assured that a security plan has been mapped out to ensure the safety of the participants.

Bicycle cops will be deployed in the different heritage sites, he said.

Aside from the annual free tartanilla rides, MyBus will join this year’s event to provide free rides from 6 p.m. until midnight to all GSK ticket holders, said SM Supermalls representative RJ Leduna.

Palm Grass Hotel, Cebu’s first culture and heritage hotel, will also join the heritage night.

Ticket holders will be treated to culinary experience, exhibits, cultural performances, free admission to all participating sites located in the cities of Talisay, Cebu, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu.

Golden Prince Hotel will teach participants how to cook Cebu’s local favorites like biko, turon and linusak; and some martial art’s techniques.

Those who can produce a complete set of Gabii sa Kabilin tickets or magazines (2007 to 2016 editions) will be given 10 free passes.

A Facebook selfie photo contest will also be conducted using the hashtag #GabiiSaKabilin2016.
