THE police have arrested five people and seized high-powered firearms in a law enforcement operation against wanted person and potential armed groups in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, an official said.
Superintendent Rogelio Alabata, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula spokesperson, said the suspects were arrested last week in the village of Balagun, Siay, Zamboanga Sibugay.
Alabata identified the arrested suspects as the following: David Meraña, 55; Windel Zulueta, 45; Ricky Lumokso, 31; Rudy Bracero, 39; and Ryan Roy Falamores, 38.
Meraña, a resident of Bato, Siay, has a standing warrant of arrest for the crime of murder with no recommended bail issued by the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 24 of Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.
Alabata said the arrested team have confiscated from the suspects’ possessions a Baby Armalite rifle; one M16 Armalite rifle; two caliber .45 pistols; a hand grenade; a motorcycle; a four-wheel pick-up vehicle; and, several rounds of ammunition.
He said the arrested suspects were detained at the police headquarters of Siay, Zamboanga Sibugay. (Bong Garcia)
