AWAITING for the final proclamation of winners, the Duterte Camp is now eyeing to have more women leaders as the six-man transition team that was officially formed last May 11 has sought advice from outgoing Senator Pia Cayetano to help them identify possible women leaders who will help the incoming administration.
Presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte's spokesperson Peter Laviña, in a press briefing yesterday at the Duterte-Cayetano camp headquarters, said that they asked Cayetano to help them identify the officials for cabinet positions and will help the incoming president select qualified women leaders.
“We asked her help to give advice to the selection committee in view of the fact that we will identify, vet and select more women leaders to join government," Laviña said.
He said that it is not in response to the criticism that the mayor is anti-women because similarly it was observed that Duterte has also appointed many women leaders in the city government of Davao.
Senator Pia Cayetano present during the briefing said she is "excited” the complete the list of qualified women to help the Duterte administration.
“I look forward to present to the selection team and the transition committee a complete list of qualified women to help in the administration of the Duterte presidency. I know for a fact that there are many women qualified for the positions. What I want to ensure is that we have a gender-balanced leadership so that the voice of women are heard and the concerns of women are addressed to the highest level because after that it will flow,” Cayetano said.
She said that they will do everything to make sure that the best women are selected in these positions.
She assured that the positions will not be limited to any particular cluster like only in positions that cover social concerns.
“I also want to assure that it will not be limited to any particular cluster. Women traditionally are perceived as active in social concerns and that is true but many are women are qualified for any position and I know for a fact that the door is open for all women in this administration,” Cayetano said.
She said that whether it is a female or male cabinet secretary, their objective is to ensure that these officials are gender sensitive and they run the department that is conducive of the rights of women.
Laviña said that the transition committee has agreed that four qualifications are set for those they will select as cabinet members.
First is a shared vision with the incoming president, second is integrity, third is ability and fourth is personal sacrifice.
Laviña said that they have no timeline for the declaration of the list of the cabinet members.
“We cannot announce until Mayor Duterte will be proclaimed winner by the board of canvassers.” Laviña said.
He said that they started to short list the names thathas been mentioned by the Mayor.
