Kimmel launches VP campaign

LATE-NIGHT comic Jimmy Kimmel said he’s looking for a new job—vice president of the United States.

The ABC jokester launched his “campaign” on his show Thursday with a speech on Hollywood Boulevard. Kimmel said, “It’s time to take our country back! From whom? I don’t know, but I want it back.”

He’s not the first comic to lampoon politics in such a manner: Pat Paulsen got laughs for his bid for president in 1968, and Stephen Colbert launched a short-lived campaign before the 2008 election.

Kimmel said he’d never stop fighting for his fellow Americans, unless Game of Thrones is on, then he’d stop for as long as it takes for him to figure out what’s going on in the show.

For those who don’t know Kimmel, they may believe the skit to be true. Kimmel reeled in CNN veteran broadcasters Wolf Blitzer and Jake Tapper for a post-announcement interview.

Blitzer reported that Kimmel, who doesn’t have a presidential bet, got a D in Social Studies in high school. Then Blitzer walked toward the large screen showing a graph, which is a typical CNN visual aid in reporting election statistics.

Blitzer said that according to the polls, Kimmel got a 100 percent rating. But Blitzer clarified: “You are the only person running for vice president.”

Then Blitzer asked Kimmel why he is running for vice president.

“I love this country so much, if it was a woman, I would have sex with it,” Kimmel replied.

Tapper asked Kimmel if he will be going on the campaign trail, to which the comedian replied: “No, I will not. I get car sick and buses smell really kind of bad. I will operate right from here at my headquarters in Los Angeles.”

In concluding the interview, Blitzer asked if Kimmel is making a mockery of the elections. But Kimmel said: “It’s too late for anyone to do that.” (AP)
