Choppers swarm Benguet airfield

CHOPPERS in the airfield have alarmed residents.

Residents have taken to social media their apprehension over the unusual number of helicopters in the airfield since Wednesday.

Cordillera Police Chief Superintendent Ulysses Abellera said the choppers are merely on a Reconnaissance Mission and assured that its presence it not related to any security concern or operation.

In military operations, reconnaissance is the exploration of an area to gather information.

Philippine Air Force choppers have been hovering over the entire province since Wednesday.

According to Police Superintendent Davy Limong, the reconnaissance may be connected to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources survey of forests.

He said the choppers are not of the PNP and he has not received any information of any PNP operation in need of air support.

The police officer added the DENR survey may be monitoring fires as well as areal overview of the boundaries of each municipality in the areas.

Netizens have been speculating the presence of the choppers which started the reconnaissance mission right after elections.
