Escalator accident inside mall leaves 6-yr-old boy wounded

A SIX-YEAR-OLD boy sustained injuries after his clothes got snagged in an escalator inside a mall in Mandaue City yesterday afternoon.

The boy, who is still unidentified as of last night, was reportedly accompanied by his mother in a mall in Barangay Centro, Mandaue City when the incident happened.

At around 12 noon, the victim and his mother were on an escalator on the mall’s second floor when the boy stumbled and fell on his stomach, causing his clothes to get snagged on the escalator.

Felix Suico, head of Mandaue City’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, said it took 30 minutes before emergency responders from their office and personnel from the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (ERUF) could remove the boy from the escalator.

The boy was immediately brought to a private hospital in Mandaue City. The victim reportedly suffered bruises on his stomach and gashes on his private part.

Suico said they have yet to hear from the mall’s management on whether or not they will help the victim.
