1 dead, 1 hurt in hacking

A LABORER died while a sugarcane worker was injured in separate hacking incidents in Negros Occidental Sunday.

In Isabela town, a laborer was hacked to death by his fellow workers at Magsaysay Avenue, Barangay Mansablay.

Police identified the fatality as Michael de la Cruz, 25.

Police records showed that De la Cruz was talking to his fellow laborers Allan Sagubay, 35 and Benjie Sagubay, 45, when a heated argument ensued between them.

The suspects then hacked De la Cruz hitting him on the neck. Both suspects also sustained minor injuries and voluntarily surrendered to the police.

Police recovered the bladed weapon used by the suspects to kill De la Cruz.

In another hacking incident, Arnel Doronila, 25, of Hacienda Santo Niño, Purok Kamotehan 1, Barangay Mailum, Bago City was injured after he was hacked by his relatives.

Police identified the suspects as Benjie Doronila, Pani Doronila, Charlie Doronila, Joey Doronila, and Alaska Doronila, all of the said barangay.

Initial investigation showed the victim was in his grandmother’s house and having a conversation with his relatives when a commotion took place.

The victim was reportedly stabbed by Charlie and Alaska simultaneously while Joey hacked him and Pani and Benjie stoned him several times.

The victim was rushed to the hospital and is now in stable condition.

Superintendent David Cachumbo Jr., city police chief, said the victim, and the suspects, who are still at-large, had a misunderstanding over an electrical connection.

Man dies in road accident

A man died after he was hit by a vehicle at Purok Paghidaet, Barangay Taloc, Bago City, at around 2 p.m. yesterday.

Police identified the fatality as Darry Gan, 48, of Riego Street, Pulupandan town.

Investigation showed that Gan was crossing the street when he was hit by a vehicle driven by Ryan Christian Agravante, 18, of Carmela Valley Homes, Talisay City.

The victim was pronounced dead at a hospital. The driver voluntarily surrendered to the police.
