Mark Villar accepts DPWH post

LAS PIÑAS City Representative Mark Villar accepted Tuesday the offer of presumptive president Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte to become his public works secretary.

In a statement, Villar confirmed that he is accepting the offer of Duterte to head the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

"I confirm that Presumptive President Rody Duterte asked me to be his DPWH secretary and after consulting with my family and constituents, I have decided to humbly accept his offer," said Villar.

Villar, the son of business tycoon and former Senate President Manuel Villar was re-elected as district representative of Las Piñas City for third time last May 9 polls.

The younger Villar earned his bachelor's degree in economics, political science and philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania in the United States. He received his master's degree in business administration from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Before he entered politics, Villar was former president of property developer Crown Asia Corporation.

As a legislator, he served as the chairman of the committee on trade and industry, and vice chair of the committees on overseas workers affairs; science and technology; and labor and employment.

Villar is married to DIWA Party-list Representative Emily Aglipay.

On Monday, the Villars went to Davao City and formalized the coalition between their Nacionalista Party and Duterte's Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan. (Sunnex)
