Congressional probe into Comelec's server script tweak cancelled

THE Joint Congressional Oversight Committee on the Automated Election System (JCOC-AES) cancelled Wednesday its scheduled inquiry on the "unauthorized" change in the script of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) transparency server.

Senator Aquilino Pimentel III, chair of the joint panel, said it would be "useless" if the investigation, which was initially set Thursday, is pursued because the Smartmatic, service provider of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), would not be able to attend.

"JCOC-AES hearing (is) cancelled because Smartmatic gave a last-minute notice that they cannot attend. Hence, hearing would be useless if we continue tomorrow," Pimentel told Sun.Star.

The hearing was called following the revelation that the hash code of the Comelec's transparency server was altered, raising questions on the integrity of the voting system.

Pimentel said the hearing will be rescheduled at the after the canvassing of the votes and "there will be attendees". (Sunnex)
