LOCAL football group Cordillera Goshenland Football Club in partnership with Milo Summer Sports Clinic is set to hold a football clinic from May 23 to June 3 at the Melvin Jones football grounds.
Interested footballers, beginners or experienced, from ages 6 to 12 years are welcome to enroll in the two - week clinic that will also serve as recruitment and promotion of football in the Summer Capital.
Baguio’s top coaches and former national standouts Aries Bocalan and Gatan Dalang will form the coaching staff of the clinic to be assisted by current college varsity players who was also a graduate of the club's football program.
“Registration is now on going at Melvin Jones from 8 to 10 am until May 23,” according to Bocalan.
The clinic will follow the Fifa grassroots football program as the instructional approach.
According to the Fifa approach, "Football above all is a game, presented as play, simplified and adapted to the children's characteristics."
Under the Fifa approach, grassroots football should present the two basic concepts of football: cooperation and opposition and explains grassroots football is an excellent means of physical, motor, psychomotor, mental and social training.
Football’s international governing body also gives premium importance to the role of parents in grassroots football, known as the Parents' Code which is to encourage rather than force or oblige and the saying "remember that children play football for their own enjoyment, not for that of their parents."
The Fifa approach also admonishes kid players in grassroots football in its Children's Code which says "play for your own enjoyment and not simply to please parents or coaches and respect your opponents, learn and respect the rules of the game and the rules of the group while ensuring fair play in all circumstances."
