Comelec to follow SC decision on proclamation of new senators

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) chair Andres Bautista said they will follow whatever the order of the Supreme Court is regarding the petition filed by 13th placer senatorial candidate Francis Tolentino to stop the poll body from proclaiming the winning senators in the 10th-12th places.

Twelve senators are scheduled to be proclaimed Thursday, May 19.

However, Tolentino last Wednesday urged the High Court to issue immediately a temporary restraining order that would stop the Comelec from proclaiming candidates particularly those who are on the 10-12 rank.

In a 10-page petition, Tolentino said that the May 9 polls was "compromised" with automated election system (AES) provider Smartmatic's "unauthorized" tweaking of the script at the Comelec transparency server in the evening of the election day.

According to Bautista, the Comelec has not yet received the copy of the petition until now.

The poll chief said that Comelec will follow the Court's order should the SC issue a TRO before the proclamation of 12 winning senatorial candidates and partylist groups today, May 19 at 3 p.m.

Former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chairman, Tolentino, ranked 13 in the last PPCRV quick count. (Sunnex)
