Finishing off the Aces

RAIN or Shine (ROS) Elasto Painters ended Alaska Aces' impressive two-game run, taking home the Oppo PBA Commissioner's Cup crown with a convincing 109-92 win last Wednesday night at the Smart Araneta Colisuem.

ROS won the first three games of the best-of-seven finals series. But when it looked like the E-Painters was going to win the title with a sweep, the Aces crawled back up and took Games 4 and 5.

The E-Painters, however, wouldn't let Alaska force a do-or-die Game 7 and took care of business in Game 6.

ROS displayed impressive three-point shooting, hitting 15 shots beyond the arc in 57 percent of shooting.

The E-Painters came out swinging and immediately took a 14-point lead, 38-24, after one quarter led by Paul Lee's 15 points.

Alaska fought back and trimmed down the lead to 10 points, 49-59, at halftime. But ROS didn't give the Aces any momentum and brought the lead up to 15 points, 84-69.

Lee was named the Finals MVP, finishing with 20 points, while Jericho Cruz led ROS with 21 points along with five rebounds.

With ROS import Perre Hederson-Niles having another sub par scoring night with just seven points, some of the team's local players filled in the void with Raymond Almazan scoring 15 points in 13 minutes of playing time and JR Quinahan with 14 in 16 minutes of action.

The Aces, which yet again fell short in its title campaign, was led by Calvin Abueva yet again with 26 points, eight rebounds and two steals.
