OUTGOING Mayor Leoncio Evasco of Maribojoc, Bohol yesterday said he does not want to accept any Cabinet position under the administration of presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte.
In a press conference in Cebu City yesterday, Evasco thanked the Cebuanos for voting Duterte on the May 9 elections.
He particularly thanked Cebu City Mayor-elect Tomas Osmeña and the group who organized the “Let’s DO (Duterte-Osmeña) It” drive for contributing much of the votes for Duterte in Cebu.
Evasco said Duterte even won in Danao City, where presidential candidate Grace Poe was expected to get a solid vote from the influential Durano family.
Evasco, who served as Duterte’s national campaign manager, denied reports that Duterte offered him to head the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) once the latter assumes the presidency.
“I have nothing to decline because it was not offered to me. But if it is offered, I will decline due to personal reasons. Kung ako’y pabut-on, mouli ko sa amo sa Maribojoc uy (If I will have my way, I’ll stay in Maribojoc),” said Evasco during a press conference in Cebu City yesterday.
Evasco even joked that he would rather become a farmer in his hometown than become a Cabinet official.
Evasco said he is not qualified to serve as a DILG secretary, but he also refused to say what he lacks for the post.
Evasco said he hopes to stay close to Duterte, while keeping a low-key position, and to be able to give advises to the presumptive president on some matters.
Evasco, a former priest turned rebel, was Duterte’s Davao City administrator before returning to his hometown in Maribojoc to serve as a mayor.
