THE European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) will hold an economic and business networking night in Cebu dubbed as “The Philippines after the May 9 Elections” at 6:30 p.m. on May 31 at the Ballroom of Cebu City Marriott Hotel.
Economist Benjamin Diokno will be the guest speaker who will be presenting an objective analysis of the election results and its effect on the Philippines as a country and as part of the international community.
Professor Diokno provides policy advice and conducts research in different areas including: public economics (with focus on structure and scope of government, tax policies and tax reform; government expenditure analysis; national budget, deficit and debt; and decentralization and intergovernmental fiscal relations), public expenditure management, resource economics (with focus on public policy on water and oil), and economic development (with focus on Asean transitional economies).
Jointly with other foreign chambers in the country, ECCP advocates for rapid economic growth, job creation and inclusivity in the Philippines.
The foreign chambers address obstacles to faster growth, such as the lack of infrastructure, traffic issues, connectivity by air and sea, a level playing field for business, successful integration of the Philippines into the Asean economic community, resource management from energy to water, and a growing partnership between the LGUs and the private sector.
Investment promotion and needed incentives for investors (local and foreign) is also high on their agenda.
The topic that will be discussed during the event will be relevant to the Cebu business community that is largely composed of small and medium enterprises.
