PETER Rennie and Edgar Teves Jr. won the overall lowest gross honor in the View Invitational 2016 last Sunday at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club (AVGCC) in Pardo, Cebu City, while Alexandre Yeo and Ed Benigay took the overall lowest net title.
Rennie and Teves shot a combined 119 in two days; they scored 61 on Day 1 and 58 on Day 2. Rennie, a Cebu-based British national, hit 29 and 33, while Teves of Dumaguete City carded 32 and 25.
Yeo and Benigay hauled 145 points and came up with the lowest net. Yeo, one of AVGCC top players, fired 38 and 40, while Benigay, a chief superintendent of the Philippine National Police, scored 32 and 35.
The Division A title went to Glenn Sebastian and Nino Bascon with 141. Sebastian shot 74 while Bascon added 67.
Engineer Willy Go and partner Ricardo Ranier Cruz bagged the Division B title with a two-day output of 135 points. Go had 38 and 26, while Cruz chipped in 36 and 35.
Rodrigo ‘Cocoy’ Cal and Bobby Arenas won the Division C crown with 141 points. Cal had 34 and 35 while Arenas shot 38 and 34.
In the seniors’ class, Hospicio ‘Razi’ Razon and Oscar Cornelio bagged the lowest gross title with 114. Razon scored 26 points in the first round and added 23 in the second. Cornelio made 34 and 31.
Razon was also given recognition during the awards ceremony for finishing as runner-up in the seniors division of the recent National Tournament of Club Champions in Luzon.
The seniors’ class was exclusive for a pair with a total age of not less than 120 years old and with no player below 55 years old.
Rolando Alberto (30-35) and partner Boy Nemenio took home the lowest net plum with 137 points on rounds of 63 and 74. Alberto had 30 and 35, while Nemenio shot 33 and 39.
Pio Barandog, lawyer Fidel Gonzalez and Kevin White each scored an eagle during the tournament and will split a Skygo motorcycle as a prize.
The tournament is AVGCC’s annual member-guest event and used the Modified Stabelford Scoring System.
