Marcos as a soldier fit for ‘Libingan’

A LIBINGAN ng mga Bayani burial for long-dead President Ferdinand Marcos is fitting not because he was a hero but because he was a soldier, presumptive president Rodrigo Duterte said in an interview late Monday evening.

I will allow it not because he is a hero, but he is a Philippine soldier,” he said.

He said that the dispute where the former dictator will be buried has created a rift among Filipinos. “It had created a division, and almost all, galit sila. Sundalo iyan hindi hero,” Duterte added.

Marcos’ burial is being contested because of his abuses during his rule. But Duterte has often said that he sees nothing wrong with burying Marcos in the Libingan. The presumptive president also said that allowing Marcos to be buried in the Libingan would catalyze a nationwide healing. (KVC)
