AUTHORITIES arrested two most wanted persons while another fugitive was killed in separate occasions in Northern Mindanao, police said Tuesday, May 24.
Superintendent Surki Sereñas, spokesperson of the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Northern Mindanao, identified those arrested as Michael Florida and Dario Maghanoy, who both had pending arrest warrants.
Florida is Cebu’s number one most wanted who has a string of arrest warrants for a series of robberies in Cebu, Dumaguete, Bohol and Ozamiz City, while Maghanoy is Tangub City’s top drug personality. They were arrested by police in Linamon, Lanao del Norte and Tangub, respectively.
Sereñas said Florida is a native of Ozamiz and made the city his hideout after allegedly carrying out unlawful activities in other areas.
“He assumed a new name and identity but our informant was able to identify him leading to his arrest,” Sereñas told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro on Tuesday.
Maghanoy, he said, is an alleged leader of a group involved in illegal drugs and has been a noted dealer for a long time.
“When I was still the police chief of Tangub, he (Maghanoy) has been our target,” he added.
Baliangao’s most wanted, Nico Lagones, however, was killed in a shootout with local police in that town in Misamis Occidental, said Sereñas.
Sereñas said Lagones was shot when he tried to fight back law enforcers who were in the act of serving a warrant of his arrest for murder.
“The crackdown was part of the intensified police campaign against most wanted persons,” he added.
