Power firm allots P4.3M for DepEd projects

DAVAO Light and Power Company (DLPC) Inc., together with the Aboitiz Foundation Inc., set aside some P4.3 million to assist various projects with the Department of Education (DepEd) in Davao City, as part of the power utility's corporate social responsibility (CSR).

DLPC executive vice president and chief operation officer Arturo M. Milan and DepEd Davao City Davao City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Helen Paguican signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for these projects, together with the principals of school beneficiaries at DLPC Lanang office on Friday.

In an interview, Milan said the projects included an electronic laboratory refurbishment, computers and armchairs donation, a one-story school building donation, rewiring project and Brigada Eskwela support.

"Eighty percent of our CSR projects are really intended to enhance and support education. Through this, we can help in a little way to provide better quality education for our students in Davao City," he said.

Milan said these projects are intended to support the implementation of the K to 12 program.

Schools that are set to benefit from these projects are Cabantian Elementary School, Catalunan Grande Elementary School, Kapitan Tomas Elementary School, Bernardo Carpio National High School, Crossing Bayabas National High School, and Davao City National High School.

The principal of Crossing Bayabas National High School, Johnito O. Galan, said that their Project E-Lab (Electrical Laboratory) is very helpful in the implementation of the senior high school program this coming school year, especially in their Electricity Installation and Management, which is very important in providing instructions.
