Almost P3M in drugs seized

A TOTAL of P2.9 million in illegal drugs were seized in a raid conducted by joint police operatives at a residence in Barangay Malabuhan, Siaton, Negros Oriental, around 5:50 a.m. Monday, May 30.

Police identified the suspect as Raffy Cantiga, 28, whose house was raided by virtue of search warrant issued by Negros Oriental Executive Judge Gerardo Paguio Jr. on May 25, 2016.

Police recovered from Cantiga’s possession three large sachets and nine small sachets of suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride), drug paraphernalia, and P4,950 cash.

Police also seized from the suspect a .45 caliber pistol with six live ammunition.

Charges for violations of Republic Act (RA) 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and RA 10591 or Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Law are being readied against Cantiga, who is detained at Siaton Municipal Police Station.

Senior Superintendent Harris Fama, acting director of Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (Norppo), said Cantiga’s apprehension is a result of “a long and tedious” police surveillance.

The raid was conducted by joint operatives of Norppo-Special Operations Group led by Chief Inspector Benedick Poblete, Siaton Municipal Police Station led by Chief Inspector Alvin Futalan, and Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group led by Inspector Ryan Orapa in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
