THE body of the man who was thrown in Barangay Balud in San Fernando, southern Cebu was claimed by his relatives yesterday afternoon.
Chief Insp. Richard Gadingan, the town police chief, identified the victim as Jimmy Vosotros, 48, single and a homosexual.
Vosotros’s body, wrapped in a black garbage bag and bound with packaging tape, was found on the side of the road in Balud last Monday.
He was hogtied and a rope was tied around his neck. A piece of paper with the message “Tulisan ko (I’m a robber), DU30” was attached to his body.
The police doubt, though, that Vosotros was a robber.
The victim was possibly killed last Sunday afternoon or at night, the police investigator said.
Vosotros wore an olive green blouse and black pants. His parents and brother Bernardo went to Tupaz Funeral Homes in Carcar City at 2 p.m. yesterday and identified him.
The relatives identified the victim through photos posted on Facebook and a scar on the stomach due to an operation.
The police learned that the victim’s family used to live in Medellin in northern Cebu and relocated to Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City.
Gadingan said his relatives lost contact with Vosotros, whose friends said he often hung out in Ponce Compound in Cebu City.
He said they will go to the area where the victim was last seen to start their investigation, and that they will look into different angles to determine the motive behind the murder.
“Manghinaot ko sa Ginoo masulbad ni ang pagpatay sa akong uyoan! Dili intawon ni tulisan akong uyoan oy! Gabisyo intawon ni sya pero dili ni salbahis pagkataw (I pray to God that the killing of my uncle will be solved! He is not a robber. He may have had a vice but he is not evil,” Vosotros’s niece, Nancy, said in Bisaya in a comment on a Facebook post shared by Janna Fernan.
