Boy, 17, dies in bike mishap

A 17-YEAR-OLD boy died in a two-vehicle collision at the South Road Properties in Cebu City last Thursday morning.

The Cebu City Police Traffic Division identified the victim as Glovanni Orapa, 17, who drove a motorcycle with only a student permit.

Based on the information gathered by SPO4 Nelson Jaime of the Cebu City Police Traffic Division, Orapa was driving the motorcycle when he turned left toward SRP’s Vestil Road but he accidentally hit an oncoming multicab driven by Hamilton Omayao, 45, with his wife, Nora, on the passenger seat.

Orapa and Nora were rushed to a hospital for serious injuries in the different parts of their bodies. Orapa was pronounced dead on arrival.

Hamilton, on the other hand, surrendered to the police.

Jaime said that driving without license is highly discouraged.

“It is already the discretion of the driver because it’s really risky to drive without a licensed authority to guide you,” he said in an interview with Sun.Star Cebu.

The traffic investigator said that a person with only a student’s permit can only drive a vehicle if a person with a driver’s license will accompany him.
