Capitol to buy 18 new vehicles for P28M

THE Capitol will buy new vehicles for the governor, vice governor and 16 Provincial Board (PB) members.

The P28 million needed for the 18 new vehicles will be charged to the Office of the Governor.

Two Isuzu SUV models, white for Gov. Hilario Davide III and golden brown for Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale, each costs P1.856 million. Both were delivered to the Capitol the other day.

The bidding is being held for the 16 double-cab pick-ups for PB members, including the Cebu Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) president and Cebu Councilors’ League president.

Each will cost the Province P1.5 million.

Provincial General Service Office (PGSO) head Jone Siegfred Sepe said the 14 Toyota Hi-Lux units being used by PB members are already eight years old.

The governor’s Nissan Super Safari always gets stalled and has become unreliable, especially on trips to the highlands, Sepe added.

Vice Governor Magpale is using her personal vehicle as her Capitol-issued vehicle is no longer serviceable.

Kinahanglan nato sila hatagan kay tibuok lalawigan man ang ilang gidumala (They need these vehicles to serve the entire province),” Sepe told reporters yesterday.

He said the plan to buy new vehicles for the governor and vice governor was conceived last year, and was supposed to be charged to last year’s budget. But repeated failures of bidding forced the Capitol to put off the transaction, until they had a successful bidding before May this year.

Officials waited for the election ban to end before the transaction could move forward.

The vehicles these officials are using now will be issued to the department heads, said Sepe.
