Bzzzzz: How an appointee got his Palace job

IS it true that the president-elect was to dine during his Cebu visit with a politician who had openly committed to support another candidate but junked him on election week? He won but the fund donor lost.

* * *

DID YOU KNOW...

... HOW THE WOULD-BE CHIEF OF PRESIDENT-ELECT DUTERTE’S COMMUNICATIONS TEAM got his job?

Two versions:

One, from the appointee’s account, by simply visiting PeDut in Davao City and asking him how he could serve his government.

Two, from another source, because his father Wencelito Andanar was then president Gloria Arroyo’s DILG secretary in 2006 (as well as the deputy secretary of the PDP-Laban-UNA coalition) and his wife is the daughter of Las Piñas Mayor Nene Aguilar who is, drum roll, Sen. Cynthia Villar’s brother. (The DPWH secretary is also the senator’s son.)

Which is the more credible version? The GMA-Villar connection, hands down. Though both his visit and his relations’ clout probably helped.

The lucky appointee is Martin Andanar who heads News5 Everywhere, the online news video and audio portal of TV5. He also anchors “Aksyon sa Umaga” on TV5 and “Punto Asintado” on Radyo 5.

Listed in a published bio are a number of schools he attended abroad, including Harvard University Kennedy School of Government, Georgetown University, National University of Singapore and, in Manila, Asian Institute of Management. But the courses he finished were not mentioned.

Andanar is definitely more telegenic and sounds a lot better than Sonny Coloma whose job he’ll take over: managing the state TV, radio, news agency and other arms of government communication.

... THE ERRORS IN THE BIDDING OF HEAVY EQUIPMENT WHICH THE CEBU PROVINCIAL BOARD REJECTED and returned to the governor?

Gov. Junjun Davide said he’d order a re-bidding, meaning the award to ConEquip for it to supply “more than 10” units of heavy equipment would be rescinded.

The transaction was raised as an election issue. The public may want to know if the objections, primarily on the price, would be addressed and causes of the “errors” removed this time.
