Capitol PIO sets La Niña info drive in 60 schools

THE Public Information Office (PIO) of the Cebu Provincial Government will hold next month a series of information drives in preparation for La Niña in 60 public schools located in municipalities prone to flood and landslides.

The PIO will identify 10 municipalities that are flood-prone and another 10 municipalities or cities that are prone to landslides. The Capitol will then identify three schools per municipality or city to hold the campaign.

The program aims to educate students from Grades 1 to 6.

The Provincial Government will be partnering with the Department of Education (DepEd) to identify the schools that need to be prioritized for the project.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) and Smart Communications are also helping the PIO in the information drive.

“The other schools na dili namo ma cover, DepEd said it was already integrated sa ila curriculum,” said Cebu Provincial Information Officer Ethel Natera.

The materials that will also be used during the project will be shared with the DepEd.

Natera said the Province will teach the students basic information on what to do before, during and after La Niña.

“We will teach it in a language na makasabot ang mga bata (that the children can understand). It’s not pure lecture,” she said.

The PIO intends to finish the project by September. Airah F. Oquias, UP Visayas Intern
