Fashion on tropical ground

ONCE more, the Lobby Lounge of Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa celebrated an afternoon of all things distinctly Cebuano during last May 14’s Mugnâ Fashion Show. Following the launch of Mugnâ last March 12, the Jewelmer Joaillerie last April 1, and the Arcy Gayatin and Philip Rodriguez show last April 9, is the fashion show that afternoon which presented the masterpieces of fashion designers Jun Escario and Mia Arcenas depicting a rendition of the island paradise.

Jun Escario’s collection is called the Hayahay (Relaxation) collection. Using Italian silk, chiffon and tulle, the collection featured pieces that were lightweight and easy to wear especially under the scorching heat. “No heavy beading, no strange, unusual trend; just simply comfortable, tasteful pieces and refreshing hues,” he shared.

Up next was the Paraiso (Paradise) collection of Mia Arcenas. “It is a depiction about a woman who is carefree, effortless, yet very elegant no matter where she goes,” she said about the inspiration for the collection. “She dares to mix and match prints and colors but still manages to look put together.”

Classic animal (cheetah) prints were infused with snake (python) prints to create a new appeal made with flowy, lightweight and luxurious materials such as Italian silk and silk chiffons. The collection overall possessed a playful vibe in bursts of colorful hues.

Apart from fashion, guests were introduced to the Merienda de Mayo, a new addition to the line of cacao-infused delights available at the lounge. Fashioned after the Philippine festival Flores de Mayo—it highlights the best of the island’s treasures: sweet and fresh mangoes married with the rich taste of homegrown cacao (raw chocolate). There’s also the Chocolate High Tea containing a box full of sweet and chocolatey treats.
