MARK Jayven Tallo sank the game winning triple with 1.7 seconds left in the game to save Phinma-SWU Cobras from a possible overtime game and to frustrate the huge comeback of the Highlands Corned Beef-UC Webmasters for a 62-59 decision to win the third place trophy of the 8th Cesafi-Partners Cup at the Cebu Coliseum yesterday.
Coming off from a timeout at the last 22.3 seconds of the game, Tallo just dribbled the time away against the defense of Joseph Mayol and at the right time pulled up from the top of the arc and sank the dagger.
Before that, Highlands Corned Beef were trailing by 11 points, 45-56 halfway to the fourth period.
Mayol, who was struggling offensively in the entire tournament, suddenly found his shooting touch as he ignited and capped a 12-0 blitz with a triple that put the Webmasters ahead, 57-56, with 2:06 left to play.
William Polican broke the long silence of the Cobras with his own triple to regain the lead 59-57, 54 seconds later.
Justin Dacalos evened the score with a fastbreak lay-up, prompting coach Yayoy Alcoseba to buy some time off and map out a winning basket, which Tallo delivered perfectly.
Highlands Corned Beef coach Kern Sesante called for a timeout to sketch a possible game tying triple, but Dacalos's attempt was too strong as the time expired.
Polican topscored for Phinma-SWU with 15 points and Tallo contributed with 13 while Dacalos topped Highlands-UC scorers with 11 points and Garciano Puerto added 10 markers.
