Capitol to create Pampanga Bay desilting team

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO--The provincial government of Pampanga is eyeing the formation of a multipartite monitoring team (MMT) for the proposed desilting and dredging project along Pampanga Bay and Pasac River.

According to Arthur Punsalan, head of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO), the MMT is part of the condition in the Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) issued by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Office-Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) to the provincial government and the Buildnet Construction Inc., the private partner for the desilting and dredging project.

Representatives from the local government, EMB, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA), Philippine Coast Guard, non-government organization and Mines and Geosciences Bureau will form part of the MMT to ensure the proper implementation of the project and make sure that the environmental structures will not be damaged in the actual operation.

Hubert Guevarra, project manager of Buildnet said they are in the last stages of the preparation for the actual work.

"We just have to comply with the conditions of ECC. One of the conditional requirements is to form the multi-partite monitoring team. Second, we also have to get the dredging permit from DPWH. It took a while pero nag-issue na din sila sa 'tin. So ngayon ang kino-comply na lang natin ay ang pagform ng multi-partite team. So we’re looking at sometime in October or September," said Guevarra.
