Cop disarmed for refusing drug test

A POLICEMAN of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) was disarmed after he refused to undergo a drug test at Nocppo headquarters in Camp Alfredo Montelibano Sr., Bacolod City Friday.

Police Officer 1 (PO1) Richard Suarez, assigned at Negros Occidental Police Provincial Maneuver Company, is one of the 127 Nocppo personnel ordered to take a surprise drug test.

Senior Superintendent William Señoron, acting director of Nocppo, said Suarez refused to take the drug test for unknown reasons.

Señoron confirmed that Suarez was disarmed, pending the administrative charges for insubordination and other charges that will be filed against him, for not following an instruction of a higher official.

“We will file the case next week,” Señoron said. “When he refused, we presumed that he’s into illegal drugs because even his alibis were inconsistent.”

He added that Suarez can even be declared unfit for police service because of his refusal, considering that the drug test is a continuing requirement for police service.

Señoron said this is the second time that Suarez showed such behavior after he also evaded taking the drug test last year.

Though disarmed, Suarez can still report to duty because he is not suspended, he added.

Results of the drug test will be known next week.
