DFA exec to lead 2016 Independence Day rites at Pamintuan Mansion

ANGELES CITY -- Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Laura Quiambao-Del Rosario will lead the 118th Independence Day rites today at Pamintuan Mansion.

“Event starts with a parade from Museo ning Angeles which is near the Holy Rosary Parish. Participants shall consist of students, teachers, boy scouts, government employees, policemen, firefighters, soldiers, and representatives from the private sector,” the City Information Office (CIO) said.

This shall be followed by a flag raising and wreath laying at the historical marker of the mansion.

“After messages from Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan and Del Rosario, there will be a re-enactment of the first anniversary celebration of the Philippine Independence by talents from Uyat Artista,” CIO added.

The Pamintuan Mansion was the site of the first and only public Independence Day celebration under the administration of former President Emilio Aguinaldo on June 12, 1899 and served as a former branch of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.

Last year, the Mansion reopened as the Museo ng Kasaysayang Panlipunan ng Pilipinas, offering a panorama of past and present life and culture of ordinary Filipinos.

“Social history is the study of everyday life. Hence one would see here the belief systems, houses and belongings, clothing, food and utensils, and art forms and leisure of Filipinos and how these have changed, remained, or disappeared,” Museum curator Bettina Arriola said.

The museum has nine galleries focusing on the history of the mansion from its construction in 1890; various Philippine textiles, accessories, and weaving tools; and Filipino clothing styles.

This year’s Independence Day celebration carries the theme “Pagkakaisa, Pagaambagan, Pagsulong.” (CLJD-PIA 3)
