Woman loses P50,000 to thief while sipping coffee in mall

A WOMAN who was just sipping her drink in a coffee shop in Mandaue City lost P50,000 cash after a robber took her wallet on Friday night.

Aireen Perez, 40, was in a coffee shop when the unidentified suspect grabbed her pink wallet and fled on board a motorcycle at past 10 p.m.

PO3 Arthur Cuyos of Mandaue Police Station 2 said Perez was seated on a chair outside the coffee shop at that time. Her wallet was placed on the table, which made it easy for the suspect.

In fleeing, the suspect used a motorcycle parked near the victim’s table, an area that was not intended as parking space for such vehicle.

Perez, a resident of Collinwood Subdivision in Barangay Basak in Lapu-Lapu City, reported the incident to the police at 12:05 a.m.

Aside from the cash, she also lost several US dollar bills, the amount of which amount was not yet verified, ATM cards and her driver’s license.

Cuyos said the victim only recalled the thief as wearing a helmet and a T-shirt.

He said the victim was not able to get the plate number of the motorcycle.

Perez tried to ask for help from the guard, but the thief could no longer be found.

Cuyos said they were still conducting a follow-up operation to locate the culprit.
