TWO boys died after they were carried away by flashflood and drowned in a river in Sitio Malubog in Barangay Ipil, Carmen yesterday morning.
Police identified the casualties as Johnlee Dayon, 5, and his cousin Mark Jenshen Dayon, 3.
Tanods and residents, who composed the search team, first found Mark Jenshen’s body stuck in the thick roots of a dakit (Indian rubber tree) at 9 a.m.
The boy had no pulse when he was recovered about a kilometer from where he and Johnlee were last seen playing in the river.
PO2 Ever Villacarlos, who was part of the team that went to the area, said they immediately brought Mark Jenshen to Danao City Provincial Hospital, where the boy was declared dead on arrival.
At 1:45 p.m., the body of Johnlee was also found trapped in the big roots of a tree. He was rushed to the same public hospital in Danao City, but the boy did not make it alive.
Rains were heavy in most parts of Cebu yesterday morning.
Villacarlos said the residents told them that it rained in Malubog around 7:30 a.m.
The boys’ mother, Lara, told the police that she saw her son Johnlee splashing water at his cousin.
“Nahibung na lang sila kalit midako ang tubig (They were confused why the water suddenly rose),” he said.
SPO2 Simplicio Gibo, in a separate phone interview, said Malubog is in the interior portion of Ipil, and is about four kilometers from the national highway.
