‘Suspicious’ men spying on vic’s hospital, house

TWO unidentified men were seen within the perimeters of the hospital and the residence of the Espinas following the shooting of two family members in Barangay Banilad, Mandaue City last Saturday afternoon.

Rainier Espina, brother of victim Kim Espina, said he saw two men outside their house last Monday dawn. One of the men was wearing a hoodie.

Kim, a 15-year-old high school student, was shot to death by an unknown assailant riding a mountain bike at 2:50 p.m. last Saturday.

She was with her mother Precilia, who suffered a gunshot wound on her left cheek.

Police authorities have yet to determine motive of the shooting.

“I hope that the mayor (Jonas Cortes) of Mandaue will be able to help us,” Rainier said in Bisaya.

Rainier told Sun.Star Cebu that his mother is now in a stable condition but needs surgery.

Precilia is still in the trauma center of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.

Rainier said that unidentified men were also seen outside the hospital.

He said that last Sunday, his uncle and elder sibling watched over Precilia in the hospital while he was in the house.

Rainier said that he was told that when his uncle and sibling were outside the hospital's trauma center, two “suspicious-looking” men were in the area.

One of the men went near them as if to listen to what they were talking about.

“My uncle and sibling just looked at each other when one of the men went closer to them,” Rainier said.

When his uncle told him about the men in the hospital the next day, they swapped descriptions of the men he also saw outside the house Monday dawn.

The descriptions of the men matched.

Rainier hoped that the police can help them identify the mastermind of the shooting.

PO2 Roje Cabra of the Casuntingan Police Station earlier said they are looking at two angles in the shooting.

One is connected to Precilia's other son, who is detained for his alleged involvement in illegal drugs.

Another possibility that the police are looking into is a report that Precilia's relatives are plotting the death of the Espinas for the properties left behind by Kim's Japanese father.

The attack on Precilia and Kim was captured by a closed-circuit television camera in the vicinity.
