Capitol appeals DAR ruling

NEGROS Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. said Monday the Provincial Government has filed a motion for reconsideration on the dismissal of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) of its petition to exempt the properties occupied by the Negros First Ranch in Murcia from coverage.

“We believe that the province is exempted so we filed the MR. We believe we are in the right tract no matter who will be the DAR Secretary. DAR missed something in their decision so we cited it in our MR,” Marañon said.

He, however, refused to comment on the statement of Moises Padilla Mayor-elect Magdaleno Pena that incoming DAR Secretary Rafael Mariano, a staunch pro-peasant farmer supporter, will surely not allow the same exemption.

The Provincial Government had filed an application for exclusion for the coverage of the Comprehensive Agarian Reform Program for three parcels of land with an aggregate area of 159.4646 hectares located in Barangays Sta. Rosa and Canlandog in Murcia town. (TDE)
