Council wants updates on terminal project

THE Iloilo City Council wants the Double Dragon Properties to update them on the status of the Guimaras Iloilo Ferry Terminal (Gift) project due to the recent charges slapped against the developer.

Councilor Armand Parcon spearheads three resolutions to request Double Dragon officials to discuss with the City Councilors about the development of the project located at the Parola area and invite Iloilo City Administrator Norlito Bautista to explain the status of the P130 million agreement between the developer and the City Government.

Parcon said he was informed of the suit set to be filed by the Provincial Government of Guimaras against the City Government of Iloilo and Double Dragon for double charging passengers using a newly-constructed terminal on top of the regular pumpboat fare.

Parcon said they only wanted clarifications from the developer as to the status of the project, since they are also impleaded in the charges filed by the Guimaras Provincial Government.

The government is asking the court to issue a declaratory relief with prayer for a temporary restraining order, injunction and temporary injunction as Double Dragon prepares the inauguration of its City Mall and ferry terminal building next week.

Some 10,000 boat passengers composed mostly of workers, students and tourists are using the ferry boats in going to the two wharves in Guimaras, the Jordan wharf in the municipalities of Jordan, Nueva Valencia and Sibunag, and the Buenavista wharf in going to the municipalities of Buenavista and San Lorenzo.
