Davao City K to 12 ready

DAVAO City is K to 12 ready, an official of the Department of Education in Davao City said.

Deped Davao City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Helen Paguican said the city’s preparedness is boosted by the support of the local government, private firms and their central office.

"If you would ask if Davao City is ready, yes we are," Paguican said.

She said that the Deped central office will provide additional teachers, and additional school buildings for the senior high school (SHS) are under construction.

"If we talk about support, the school heads know how to find ways because we are used to it. We see to it that every program is properly implemented. We also have long running partnerships that we are nurturing)," Paguican added.

Only 68 out of the 72 secondary schools in the city were earlier reported qualified to implement SHS next school year, with the remaining schools drawing teachers from the technical vocational institutions.

DepEd-Davao City division planning officer Allen Sacamos had said that of the 68 schools, three were stand-alone high schools that will offer SHS.

The three are Davao City National High School, Sta. Ana National High School, and Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School.

Deped-Davao had budgeted P732,396,208 for the SHS next year.

SHS is the additional two years in high school under the K to 12 program. Grade 11 will be introduced in school year 2016-2017, and grade 12 in SY 2017-2018.

Upon reaching Senior High School, students will choose a specialization from the three tracks: Academic, Technical-Vocational-Livelihood, and Sports and Arts.
