ILOILO CITY -- The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) regional office in the city has released the names of municipalities in Western Visayas considered as high risk for landslide and floods as a mitigation scheme to alert these towns during strong typhoons.
MGB regional director Leo Van Juguan said in the province of Aklan, 14 towns are at risk with the municipalities of Balete, Buruanga, Madalag, Malinao, Ibajay, Tangalan, Libacao and Batan as high risk for landslide and floods, while the towns of Nabas and Malay are threatened with landslide. Numancia, New Washington, Kalibo and Lezo are threatened with floods.
In the province of Antique, the towns with high risk for landslide and floods are Valderama, San Remigio, Lauaan, Anini-y, Sebaste, Pandan and Libertad. Floodings may occur in Tobias Fornier, Patnongon, Barbaza, Hamtic, Caluya, Tibiao, Belison, San Jose , Sibalom and Culasi.
In the province of Capiz, the vulnerable towns with high risk for landslide are Tapaz, Jamindan, Pres. Roxas and Pilar, while landslide and floodings threatened Cuartero, Dumarao, Dumalag, Mambusao, Dao and Sapian. Floodings threatened Sigma, Pontevedra, Panit-an, Panay and Maayon.
Landslides and floodings threatened the municipalities of Jordan, Buenavista, Nueva Valencia and San Lorenzo while floodings may occur in Sibunag.
In the province of Iloilo, high risk towns with landslides and floodings is Concepcion while landslides threatened the towns of Leon, San Joaquin, Tubungan, Igbaras, Miagao, Lambunao, Calinog, Alimodian and Janiuay.
Floodings threatened Iloilo City, Dumangas, Oton, Guimbal, Zarraga, Banate, Leganes, Pavia, San Rafael, Tigbauan, Carles, Ajuy, San Enrique and Estancia.
In the province of Negros Occidental, the threatened towns with high risk on landslides and floodings are Don Salvador Benedicto, Kabankalan City and Moises Padilla, while landslides are in La Castellana, Calatrava, Isabela, Pontevedra, Cadiz City, Murcia, Cauayan, Candoni, San Carlos City, Kabankalan City and Silay City.
Threatened with floodings are Pulupandan, Binalbagan, Valladolid, Manapla, Bago City, Hinigaran and EB Magalona.
