2 Negrenses to receive Bayanihan award

TWO Negrenses are among the nine Bayanihan awardees of the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division during its 41st anniversary rites set on Tuesday at Camp Peralta in Jamindan, Capiz.

They are Sixth District Rep. Mercedez Alvarez and Harry Pineda, program director of the Alter Trade Foundation.

In 2014, Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. also received the Bayanihan award.

Major Ray Tiongson, ead of the 3rd ID Public Affairs Office, said that Alvarez is awarded the Bayanihan award for being an active partner in the humanitarian activities of the 3rd ID in the 6th District of Negros Occidental.

These activities include medical and dental civic action programs, feedings, gift-giving, and tree planting activities in far-flung barangays where government services are inadequate.

Tiongson said Pineda is cited for having significantly contributed to the pursuit of peace and development programs in Negros Occidental.

Pineda has actively involved himself in such initiatives focusing on securing and ameliorating the social and economic conditions of the most marginalized and vulnerable sectors affected by armed conflict.

The seven other awardees are also government officials and representatives of non-government organizations who have significantly contributed to the Bayanihan campaign of the 3rd ID in Western Visayas. (TDE)
