Down to final 4 in beach volley

THE 2016 Davao City Summer Fest Invitational Open Beach Volleyball, which resumed at the Felis Beach Resort Complex in Matina Aplaya Saturday, is down to its final four in women's division.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) Lady Patrollers, Philhealth, Davao City Water District (DCWD) and University of Mindanao (UM) Tagum advanced to the semi-finals of the women's event.

PNP Lady Patrollers and Philhealth both topped the elimination round of the women's division. The PNP pair of Lourdelyn Catubag and Karen Kaye Quilario crushed Cascabel's Nicole Sasuman and Shaina Lyka Panchito, 21-4, to retain its clean 4-0 slate in bracket A.

Philhealth's Liezl Manatad and Michelle Agton eked out three wins over the University of Immaculate Conception (UIC) duo of Kate Jocson and Nicole Bacmante, 21-6; Gensan Tuna's Angela Lastimosa and Phoebe Annthea Astilla, 21-4; and University of Mindanao (UM) Tagum's Mary Jane Zapanta and Buenamae Sedulan 21-13 to stay unbeaten after four outings in bracket B.

Agton said, "Kailangan talaga naming ayusin ang service and spikes namin kasi mostly nandun ang errors namin."

Manatad, for her part, said: "Wala talaga kaming practice, jogging lang ang ginagawa namin, talagang mahihirapan kami kasi nandyan ang PNP lady patrollers."

Philhealth is also gearing for the Government Overall Controlled Corporation (GOCC) League set in July.

Teams Gensan Tuna, Ace, Cascabel Construction, UIC, Ateneo de Davao (AdDU) Sr., AdDU Jr., and Davao Optima were eliminated.

Men's teams were still playing as of Saturday's presstime.

The beach volleyball invitational tournament is sponsored by the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor’s Office, Davao Volleyball Association, and Philippine Volleyball Federation.
