THE Maroonlers and the University of Mindanao (UM) Tagum clinched the third place in their respective divisions in the 2016 Davao City Summer Fest Invitational Open Beach Volleyball held at the Felis Beach Resort Complex in Matina Aplaya, on Sunday, June 19.
After bowing out of title contention following the loss against Saori in the cross-over semis, The Maroonlers tandem of Antonio Penero and Christopher Jason Juan bounced back beating the UM Davao pair of Francis Caunga and Jan Ashley Jacob, 21-19 to settle for third in the men's division.
On the distaff side, the UM Tagum duo of Mary Jane Zapanta and Buenamae Sedulan bested the Janice Arnaiz and Lykamalikol-bannered Davao City Water District (DCWD) 21-15, after losing from PNP-Lady patrollers during the cross-over round.
Davao Optima's power duo Calvin Sarte and John Wariza and Saori's Loujei Tipgos and Edmar Flores were facing off for the championship match in the men's division, while Philhealth veteran duo Liezl Manatad and Michelle Agton were battling it out against the PNP power tandem of Lourdelyn Catubag and Karen Kaye Quilario for the women's division title as of Sunday, June 19.
The beach volleyball invitational tournament is sponsored by the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor’s Office, Davao Volleyball Association, and Philippine Volleyball Federation.
