BJMP bakeshop transferred due to floods

FLOODED floor and a leaking roof during rainy days forced the Baguio City Jail to transfer La Galera bakery to the office of the female dormitory.

The bakeshop launched earlier in March aims to promote and sell the products of the lady inmates particularly brewed coffee, malunggay pandesal, Spanish bread, loaf bread and pastries to the public.

However, the onset of rainy season showed defects of the area, which was assigned to serve as the store and bakeshop.

In an message to Sun.Star Baguio, Jail Warden April Rose Ayangwa said the female dormitory's office is now serving as the product outlet since the bakeshop gets flooded during rainy days.

"We referred the matter to the regional office for inspection, in the meantime, we informed our clients to go directly to the female dorm for their orders or to buy products," Ayangwa said.

At the same time, the female dormitory will now have an open house every Tuesday and Thursday to showcase the livelihood products of the inmates as well as services.

Ayangwa said handicrafts and other products will be displayed for sale including services like foot spa, facial and whole body massage at P150 each. There will also be manicure and pedicure services at P50, respectively.

Earnings from the activity directly go to the association of female inmates.

The BJMP and the City Government of Baguio has been sponsoring the conduct of free training on baking, cooking, entrepreneurship, handicraft, table skirting, flower arrangement, cross stitch and crochet-making, hairstyling, make-up and pedicure among others for female inmates.

Aside from the training, government agencies and the city government have provided the equipment needed by the inmates in their livelihood.
