A POPULAR Japanese Restaurant in Halifax, Nova Scotia in Canada has whipped up a new maki concoction, which it named, the Duterte Spicy Maki.
This was shared by Dabawenya and Ateneo de Davao University graduate Sol Matalam who now lives in Halifax with her mother, former ABS-CBN advertising executive Pong Manansala Iosipescu.
“A lot of people here in this restaurant are Filipinos that's why I think they made this in honor of the victory of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte,” Matalam said in the video she posted of their Sunday lunch at Hamachi Mura Sushi Restaurant.
This, aside from the fact that the kitchen crew are die-hard Duterte supporters that’s why they concocted the Duterte Spicy Maki. The Hamachi Mura's staff, most especially chefs, in their kitchens are Filipino.
Hamachi Mura has won the award for Best Sushi in Halifax from 2004 to 2012.
“The Duterte Spicy Maki is extremely good! It has the right combo of sweet, salt and that kick of spice. Medyo creamy din po. I'm not really a fan of sushi or maki but this one stood out for me po. They put this special Maki out as soon as he won. I do believe they'll have it until the proclamation day of Duterte,” Mansansala said.
Chef named Juvi who hails from Bacolod says that this is their simple way of celebrating the victory of our mayor, she added.
The Duterte Spicy Maki is made of tuna, salmon, and cream cheese panko topped with chopped salmon and spicy tuna, tempura sweet potato, red curry sauce, unagi sauce, sesame seeds, and japapeno. Ten pieces go for Canadian $14.99. “Lami kaayo, Mayor,” Iosipescu said as she showed a piece on video.
Hamachi Mura is among the best sushi restaurants in Halifax.
