Moderate to heavy rains to affect Mindanao

THE local Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) based in El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental, warned the public over the presence of an inter-tropical convergence zone (ITCZ) that affecting Mindanao.

The weather system brings moderate to heavy rains to Northern Mindanao.

Pagasa weather specialist Hannah Salvador said the ITCZ may be accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds.

Salvador said ITCZ is the convergence of northeast and southwest trade winds.

"Sa pagtagbo sa hangin nag create sa thick cloud nga gadala sa mga pag-ulan," Salvador said.

"Ang ITCZ walay definite nga period kung kanus-a kutob ang pag-ulan ulan. It normally happens ani nga bulan sa June sa onset sa rainy season," Salvador added.

Salvador also said that ITCZ is the breeding ground of typhoons.

Since ITCZ affects the entire island, rainfalls may be experienced by more provinces at a time.

The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) urged every barangay DRRMC to monitor the weather to respond to any untoward incidents.

CDRRMC is also on the lookout for heavy rains which may trigger floods in the city’s flood prone barangays. (AS)
