Drug lord 'Barok' surrenders

SUSPECTED drug lord Alvaro “Barok” Alvaro surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Bohol on Tuesday, June 21, four days after he escaped from a police shootout that killed another suspect the police called Jaguar.

NBI-Central Visayas agent Arnel Pura confirmed Alvaro’s surrender.

Alvaro was brought to the NBI-Central Visayas office in Cebu City before he flew, with escorts, to the agency’s national headquarters in Manila. Pura declined to give further details.

Apart from being a suspected drug lord, Alvaro has also been accused of masterminding the ambush of Senior Inspector Jonas Tahanlangit, who died in San Francisco, Camotes last April 5.

Intelligence operatives from the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Visayas were reportedly out to arrest Alvaro last Friday night in Las Piñas when the shootout took place.

Jeffrey “Jaguar” Diaz and his bodyguard Paul Vincent Morales were killed.

Alvaro was said to have been based in Danao City and had eluded previous operations by the police.
