University of Mindanao offers legal aid for the poor

THE University of Mindanao (UM) College of Legal Education will provide free legal aid to the poor through its UM Legal Advocacy Network (Ulan) program.

"Those who will need help, they can go to the university and look for the UM Legal Advocacy Network for legal assistance," said Ulan program director Mark T. Peñalver.

Peñalver said the university’s legal aid clinic has been helping people since 2013.

Peñalver said in order to avail of the free legal aid, the beneficiary must prove he/she is indigent.

Other than providing legal services, Peñalver added that they have also conducted various seminars on women's rights and anti-bullying.

Participating universities for the legal advocacy network are the Palawan State University, Western Mindanao State University, Liceo de Cagayan University, Bukidnon State University, and Mindanao State University in Marawi and Iligan. (KGL/PR)
