Women's group opposes death penalty

WOMEN'S Party-list group Gabriela has expressed opposition against President-elect Rodrigo Duterte’s plan to revive the death penalty.

Gabriela-Southern Mindanao spokesperson Bai Ali Indayla said the women’s group is calling on the incoming administration not to revive death penalty in the country.

Indayla said the death penalty is not a solution to the ongoing crime everywhere. She added that the group is against on the idea of reinstating it back since justice system has not yet change.

The revival of death penalty is one of the three priority measures of the Duterte administration, the other two being the shift to federalism and the lowering the age of criminal responsibility for minors. (ICT)
