Crime group leader, 2 others slain

THREE people, including a crime group leader, were killed while a policeman was wounded in a firefight early Friday in a remote area in Zamboanga del Norte, a police official announced Friday.

Senior Superintendent Debold Sinas, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula (Western Mindanao) deputy regional director for operations (DRDO), said crime group leader Jamaruddin Alih alias Boy Takas, his son, Jurjin, and another follower, Danny Kairal were slain.

Police Officer 1 Samman Iyoh of the Sibuco Municipal Police Station was wounded.

Sinas said the firefight broke out around 3:15 a.m. Friday in the village of Lakiki, Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte.

Sinas said the firefight ensued as the group of Alih resisted the lawmen, who were serving warrants of arrest against the crime group.

The superintendent said Alih and his son, Nurjin, have standing warrants of arrest for murder while Kairal is involved in prohibited drug trade.

He said Alih earned the alias of Boy Takas since the latter is an escapee of the San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm in Zamboanga City.

Sinas disclosed the group of Alih, which composed of 16 gunmen, is involved in prohibited drug trade, extortions, killings and other criminal atrocities in Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte.
