MisOr prison shakedown yields more contraband

MORE contraband were seized inside the Misamis Oriental Provincial Jail (MOPJ) during a third surprise inspection on Thursday, June 23.

Confiscated in the latest prison shakedown includes a mobile phone, 11 chargers, 11 batteries, a pocket wifi, 16 metal spoons, four head sets, five sets of playing cards, eight pairs of scissors, 43 lighters, a flashlight, 14 sim cards, a memory card, 20 improvised bladed weapons, and a sachet of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as "shabu."

The seized contraband were destroyed after inventory and documentation.

The shakedown was part of the "Oplan Greyhound" of Misamis Oriental Governor Yevgeny Emano.

MOPJ warden Dominador Tagarda, who led the custodial force in the search, said that they aim to confiscate illegal materials inside the jail facility such as communication gadgets and drug paraphernalia to prevent inmates from illegal and unlawful activities.

The first two raids were conducted last June 7 and 8 where several contraband were also discovered and destroyed.

Emano earlier said his campaign against illegal drugs have become stronger even as he is willing to give reward to every police officers who can arrest persons involved in illegal drug trade in the province.

Emano even supported the aspirations of incoming president Rodrigo Duterte in wiping out rogues in the PNP organization and lessen, if not totally eradicate illegal drug activities.
