THE police have arrested three people, including two village officials, in anti-drug operations in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, an official said.
Senior Superintendent Edwin Wagan, Zamboanga del Norte police director, identified the arrested suspects as: Conrado Provida, 48, alias Nonon, a village watchman (tanod), Carlito Elumbaring, 35, a village treasurer,
and, Elton John Mendijar, 20.
Wagan said Provida and Mendijar were arrested in a drug bust around 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the village of J.P. Brillantes, Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte.
Wagan said the arresting team confiscated from the possessions of Provida and Mendijar eight heat-sealed plastic sachets--one large and six small sizes--containing suspected shabu, “marked money,” and other prohibited drug paraphernalia.
Wagan said Elumbaring was arrested in a separate drug bust operation around 12:30 a.m. Thursday in the village of Talinga, Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte.
He said Elumbaring, who is also a member of a civic radio club, is the village treasurer of Tinaplan, Sindangan town.
He said Elumbaring was arrested after he sold a sachet of suspected shabu to an undercover policeman. Confiscated from his possession were suspected shabu and “marked money.”
Appropriate charges are set to be filed against the suspects, according to Wagan. (Bong Garcia)
