POLICE arrested nine persons including a relative of a former mayor and hauled more than P900,000 worth of shabu in separate anti-illegal drugs operations in San Remigio, Consolacion, Bogo City, Dalaguete and San Fernando last Saturday.
A team from the Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group and Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) seized 74 grams of shabu worth P873,800 from three suspected drug personalities in the villages of Gaway-gaway and Gairan in San Remigio at 3:59 p.m.
They, however, failed to arrest two of the suspects, Lani Mendez and a certain Maeng.
Mendez’s alleged cohort, Johnry Serafin, was captured.
PIB operative SPO1 Reynaldo Solante, in a phone interview, said they implemented the search warrants issued by Cebu City Regional Trial Court Branch 19 Judge Wilfredo Fiel Navarro against Serafin and Mendez in Gaway-gaway.
Some 70 grams of shabu and drug paraphernalia were seized from the residences of the two suspects. The contraband is worth P826,000.
Solante said they were unable to arrest Mendez, who possibly noticed the presence of the police.
Mendez’s concrete house sits in a hilly portion, about 250 meters from the main barangay road, and only motorcycles can reach his residence.
He was arrested over drug charges before, but he was able to post bail. Mendez and his underlings also distributed drugs in Medellin and Bogo City.
At the time of the operation the rough road leading to Mendez’s house was slippery because of the downpour.
Mendez is reportedly a level two drug pusher who can dispose of more than 50 grams per week. His reportedly sourced his supply from Ozamiz City.
The team later conducted a buy-bust against Maeng at 10:30 p.m., but the suspect was able to elude arrest by running in the dark portion of Gairan.
Solante said they recovered four grams of shabu worth P47,800 and drug paraphernalia from Maeng’s motorcycle. (The police officer requested not to disclose the full identity of the suspect because they are still looking for him.)
In Barangay Tugbongan, Consolacion, the team led by Senior Insp. Wilson Abot arrested Alvin Gerundio Bolonias, Jerry Lago Payla, Jomar Gura Rago and Niño Hatamosa Gungob in a buy-bust.
Abot, the town police chief, said they seized 3.92 grams of shabu worth P42,968.
The police official said Gungob is a relative of former Consolacion Mayor Avelino Gungob.
Other police units caught Vince Clae Dignos Ortega and Lemuel Bagon Pacumio in Barangay Gairan, Bogo City; Ernesto Beldad Salonoy in Barangay Tabon, Dalaguete; and Roel Contridas Jungoy in Barangay Balud, San Fernando.
The suspects will face complaints for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Call center agents
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA 7) also arrested three call center agents who were found among a few others in an alleged drug den in Salinas Drive, Purok Sto. Niño, Cebu City last Saturday night.
The warrant was supposedly for Michael Bahina, the one who was allegedly maintaining the drug den, but he managed to escape.
The call center agents are Paulo Cañeda Guinto, 27, of Barangay Luz, Cebu City; Azul Ventura Enot, 28, of Barangay Luz, Cebu City; and Flobelle Damayo Marabiles, 34, Cebu City.
Seized during the raid were 13 packs of alleged shabu at a street value of P85,000.
